I join you, not your suffering

There is a widespread belief that has been passed down to us, which goes like this: “If you don't feel the suffering of that person (family member, friend...) within yourself, it's because you don't love them.” This belief is a misguided judgment made from the ego.

Pain is not the same as suffering. Pain is related to the body and can be alleviated with medication. Suffering is in our minds.

This is a world in which we go through difficult situations. These are experiences that, if we approach them with confidence, will help us advance on our inner journey.

If a family member or friend is going through a hard time, you will help them in any way you can, just as you would help a stranger who has a problem on the street, but you should not take on their suffering as your own, as these are their life experiences, not yours.
It is very normal to worry if someone you care about is going through a difficult situation, but keep in mind that your suffering will not help them or you.

When you suffer for someone, it is because you are seeing them from the ego. You have lost sight of the bigger picture of that person as an eternal and spiritual being who is passing through this earth and living a situation that they have unconsciously chosen for themselves, even if they are unaware of it.

The best thing you can do for a person who is suffering is to ask for help from your wisest part, your Being, to mentally unite with them, making them feel that they are part of the Oneness, of the Love that is our essence. Love them, without attachment, and be assured that your thoughts will reach them as all minds are united.

Unite with your brother and do not make their suffering your own.
